The
mission of the College of Business at Lamar University is to provide undergraduate
and graduate business education in Southeast Texas to a diverse student
population, and thereby meet the needs of employers operating in a global
environment characterized by rapid technological change.
I. Catalog Description:
This course includes the study of organizational behavior concepts such
as leadership, motivation, individual behavior, group behavior, and communication.
Their use in U.S. and multinational organizations in management practice
is examined in the context of today’s legal, social and ethical
environment.
II. Prerequisites: Junior standing -- Student must have completed
sixty (60) semester hours by the end of the term.
III. Course Learning Objectives: After taking this course, you
should have:
• Obtained
an in-depth understanding of key management theories regarding motivation,
leadership, communication, decision-making, and personality
• Participated in case-related exercises and group discussions
that teach counseling, appraising, motivating, rewarding, and leading
personnel
• Recognized current management concerns for managing in a global
economy
• Recognized current management concerns for making ethical decisions
• Developed an understanding of the environmental constraints
that influence organizational decision-making including the legal, social,
political, and competitive aspects of organizational strategy

VI. Evaluation Tools: Examinations, class participation, quizzes,
continuing case study.
Grading follows the standard 90, 80, 70, 60% scale, based on a total
of 1,000 available points. There will be four 100-point exams (cumulative,
but not comprehensive). (See the Glindex, publisher’s site and WebCT
for study guides.) The optional final exam is comprehensive, and is worth
150 points. If you choose not to take this exam, the average of your first
four exams will comprise this grade.
Self study quizzes (16 at 10 points each) and case study assignments
(2 installments at 100 points each) must be submitted no later than the
date and time stated in the Assignments Calendar, and will comprise 35%
of your course grade. There is also a 100-point class participation/attendance
grade (80/20 points = 10%). You may NOT make up quizzes or case studies.
Assignments will be accepted early, but NOT late, for ANY reason! To enable
you to monitor your progress during the semester, your grades will be
posted on WebCT at http://webct.lamar.edu:8900.
